A Look Underneath

As the eagle ray turned, Blu suddenly saw something he had not noticed before.

Along the ray’s belly were several narrow openings. They were gill slits, where water passed over the ray’s gills so it could breathe.

Blu also spotted the ray’s mouth underneath its body — just the right place for searching the sandy bottom for food.

From above and below, the eagle ray was full of amazing adaptations for life in the sea.

“There’s a whole other side of you!”
